Publisher Support

  • General Questions

    • Who can join the developer program?

The Mochi developer program is open to all creators of Flash gaming content so long as they meet the requirements in our Developer Program Policies. All gaming content must be clean and family friendly. Games that do not meet the guidelines will not be able to participate.

    • Who can join the publisher program?

The publisher program is for the owners of websites and applications. The Mochi Ads network will not accept publishers with mature or adult content on their sites. Our goal is to provide advertisers with games and publishers that are clean and family friendly. Sites containing content which does not meet that guidelines will not be able to participate in the publisher program and may have their accounts deactivated.

  • Payments and Earnings

    • How much can I make?

Your earnings depend on how much traffic your game or site gets and the gaming audience that are enjoying them. The great thing about Mochi Ads is that you'll be earning revenue each time your game is played. The best way to find out how much you'll earn is to sign up and start showing ads in your game! There's no cost, no obligations, and getting started is quick and easy. If you don't like it for any reason, you can disable ads at any time even if your game is already the most popular thing on the Internet.

    • What is the Mochi Ads revenue share?

Mochi Ads shares revenue with both game developers and publishers in our network. Users who are both developers and publishers will receive a combined revenue share for the games hosted on their registered domains. Our ad revenue varies greatly depending on the source, therefore we do not disclose the exact share between all parties. However, we attempt to maintain an even split after serving costs between us and the developer of the game. MochiAds has always been an important part of our game developers income and we will continue to increase our eCPM to ensure developers and publishers earn as much as possible. The more you earn the better it is for all of us!

    • What payment methods are available?

Payments can be made via check, PayPal and Moneybookers. We recommend using PayPal because it's the quickest and most convenient way for our developers and publishers to get paid.

    • Will I still earn money from my games if someone takes it from my site?

Absolutely! That's the beauty of Mochi Ads. It doesn't matter who takes your game or what page it ends up on, Mochi Ads will always keep track of it and serve the appropriate ads. In fact, we encourage game developers to spread their games across multiple sites to maximize the earning potential of their games.

    • How do you calculate how much I get paid?

Ads are sold on a cost per thousand impressions (CPM), cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-acquisition (CPA) basis. We don't disclose exactly what kind of ad is shown for your game, but for the most part we are serving CPM ads which pay out some amount per thousand impressions. On your dashboard, we display the average effective CPM (eCPM) that you're currently earning for each game, which can fluctuate throughout the day based on your traffic and our ad inventory.

    • What is eCPM and why is it fluctuating?

The effective cost per 1000 impressions, or eCPM, allows you to understand how much money you have made in the past per thousand views and the variety of ads that have shown in your game. Our money comes from advertisers in different forms. Sometimes they buy per view, per click or per action of the ad in your game. The various ads that show will be a mix of these types at different prices. Effective CPM doesn't represent your earnings - rather, it's calculated by dividing your earnings by number of page impressions, then multiplying by 1000. If you made $1.00 over 1,000 impressions then your eCPM would be $1.00. If you made $1.00 over 2,000 impressions your eCPM would be $0.50.

Your eCPM will fluctuate throughout the day based on your traffic and our ad inventory. The CPM for a specific ad is basically a fixed price, and depending on which ads are shown and what the advertiser is paying, this value will fluctuate. Your eCPM goes up if you get more impressions of higher value CPM ads, and for that to happen you need more impressions from primarily English speaking countries (especially the United States).

    • Is it possible to split the payment between two people?

Yes! In the game settings tab for your game there is a "Revenue Sharing" section that you can edit to share game revenue with other Mochi accounts.

    • Do I get paid per click or paid per view of the game?

We don't disclose exactly what actions cause revenue in which advertisements, but for the most part we're serving CPM ads which pay out some amount per thousand impressions. On your dashboard we display the average effective CPM (eCPM) that you're currently earning for each game, which can fluctuate throughout the day based on your traffic and our ad inventory.

  • Ad Units

    • How often can an ad be shown?

There is a frequency cap on advertisements. You can't show your ad more often than once every five minutes during a game play. If you try and show the ad more often then it will just be skipped until that five minutes has passed.

    • What are your ad sizes?

Mochi Ads come in three sizes: 500x350, 336x280, and 300x250 and are available as static, rich media and video units. The minimum dimensions for a game are 300x300 to ensure that the ads can fit the game window. Pre-game, inter-level and peel-away ads will accept all sizes, but click-away ads are limited to the 300x250 size. Additional ad sizes and types will be mixed into our inventory in the future.

    • What happens when someone clicks on an ad?

We want to ensure the best possible experience for someone playing your game. When someone clicks your ad in the game, a new window pops up with the advertiser's site. In the original window where they are playing your game, your game is paused and they merely have to go back and click to resume their game. That way, they don't miss anything important! See examples of games with Mochi Ads installed here.

    • Where do ads show?

Developers have the flexibility to choose where they want to show ads. We have three types of ads: pre-game ads that show while the game is loading, inter-level ads shown during any natural break in gameplay, click-away ads that can be integrated into the game menu or a custom preloader. The only limitation we set is a frequency cap which does not allow inter-level ads to be shown more than once every five minutes; if you try and show the ad more often, it will just be skipped until that five minutes has passed. • How do I refer people to Mochi?

  • Publisher Questions

  • Adding Games To Your Site

    • Do I need to host the games on my own server?

No, you may link directly to the games hosted on games.mochiads.com. However, you will only be eligible for revenue share and see statistics for game plays when the game files are hosted on a domain that you have verified.

To see if you are correctly hosting your games you can use our SWF Detection bookmarket to see where content is being hosted.

    • How do I put games on my site?

We offer two ways to put games on your website. The first method is by downloading our ZIP package. Each game has its own ZIP package available for download, which provides the game files, game description/instructions and everything you need to put it on your site. The second method is by using our feed and creating an automated system to import games as they show up on your feed.

  • Verifying Your Domain

    • How do I transfer a domain from one account to another?

Domains can only be linked to one account at a time. If you would like to transfer ownership a domain from one site to another, delete the domain from the original account and re-authenticate from the new account.

    • What qualifies as a domain?

You can claim a main root domain (such as mydomain.com), or you can claim a sub-domain (such as games.mydomain.com). Both are treated as different domains in the Mochi for Publishers program. In both cases you'll need to have access to the URL in order to verify it with the mochi.html verification file.

Directories within a domain do not currently qualify as a separate domain. For instance you cannot register www.mydomain.com/games/ as different from www.mydomain.com/movies. Our system will see both these URLs as www.mydomain.com.

    • What if I own more than one domain?

You can easily claim more than one domain if you own more than one. Each domain will need to be verified by placing a file onto your web server.
